This past week I made progress and got 15.5 miles on the books! That is the most since I took time off after the Goofy Challenge.
Well, I completed 4 workouts each for Stage 1A and 1B of The New Rules of Lifting for Women and feel strong! I am glad I switched gears and incorporated weights into my running, even though some days I ended up too sore to run.
I made progress on most of the exercises and was able to increase my weights, I also have made huge progress with the No Girly Pushups Challenge sponsored by WinetoWeightlifting and her friends. When I started the Push Up Challenge I was able to do 35 with my workouts in total, now I am able to do 52 in one session! YEA!
Today my family and I headed down to Detroit for the Corktown 5K. It was our first year running this race.
The plan was Mama was going to run by herself and my Husband was going to run with Monkey and Baby Girl. I really wanted to PR today after the awesome run I had 2 weeks ago where I did 3.1 in 26 minutes.
The weather was absolutely perfect for a race! 54F and SUN! It felt so good to see and feel the sun again! Once we walked to the starting area, I said good bye to my family and headed into the Green Wave.
Right away I saw my friend Jeff over at DetroitRunner.com. It is really funny, we have been trying to meet up now for a while and I have seen him 3x this week alone!
Nice photobomb, huh? I was going to try and crop her out but then we just looked like two floating heads
Before we knew it, the race started. I did pretty well the first half mile, then got an awful pain right under my rib cage. I was able to still control my breath, but for the rest of the run it stayed with me and was really uncomftorable. I was also thirsty right away which was not a good sign. None the less, I made a quick water stop and continued on.
For the first mile and a half out, it was great because the wind was at our back, once we turned around though there were some times where the wind was right at us and it was strong.
I finished with my Garmin reading 26:32 and was really hopeful of getting close to 25 for official time. When the offiical time came out to 26:52 though I was surprised, granted it is only a 20 second difference, lol. Perhaps I just turned my Garmin on/off too soon.
I got some water and a banana and then headed back by where they were handing out the medals and ran into Jeff, once again! I also got to meet another Twitter friend for the first time too, Kevin who tweets over at @kmjones234.
After I met up with my family we headed home and put some grass fed burgers on the grill and relaxed.
For the next three weeks I am going to be participating in a challenge with Mamavation and Omron Fitness in doing running interval training with heart rate workouts using Omron’s new heart rate monitor Model HR-500U that is on your wrist! Yep, you read that one right! No more chest straps! This challenge starts tomorrow and will be focused on improving your 5K time so stay tuned! I am going to do a virtual 5K on March 30th to see how I benefited from the heart rate workouts.
How was your weekend?

Amazing job on the PR!!!
I was so not conditioned for this race. Endurance-wise, I think I did awesome, but the pain in my legs was horrible. I used some Rocktape, but apparently missed the spot I needed it on, so will have to do better for Sunday’s race.
I was bummed I didn’t get to see you, but there will be more races!
Beautiful day, beautiful PR! Congrats!

Thank you so much, and sorry about your shins!
We need to try to meet up for sure next weekend! Depending on your time goals you are welcome to run with us. I try to keep the kids around a 12 minute mile.
Have a great week!
Congrats on the 5K PR! I’m looking forward to signing up for a couple of 5K’s this summer to break up the longer races I seem to be drawn to lately.
The weekend was really good! Mr. Hockey had two games and rapped up his season and I got to sleep in a little which was much needed as I’m at the tail end of this endless cold.
Have a great week Lisa and take care!!

Thanks Leslie! It has been a while since I ran a shorter race without the family. Hubby stayed back with the kids and from what I hear every mile was a disaster for them without Mama, lol. Family 10k this coming weekend. Feel better!!!
Congrats on the PR! I really need to do a 5k at some point…I know it’s crazy, but the only races I’ve done are half and full marathons, so I don’t have an “official” 5k time!

Well then you automatically have a PR, lol I’m with you and don’t typically run them. My main focus is the half, although I am really liking the speed challenge of the 5k lately.
Congrats girlie! By the way I’m adding you to my Google reader so I can see your posts quicker! Way to KICK BUTT!

Yea! Excited to be added! Seriously thinking about trying for a better time at another 5k this weekend, lol. We will see how I feel.
Congratulations!!!! After each marathon training cycle I ran PR’s. Isn’t it amazing that running long and slow makes us fast?!

It is
wish I would not have had to take so much time off after goofy but amazed how much faster I run now!
Great job on the PRs!
