It was cold this morning, VERY cold. Like 24F. Not exactly the kind of weather to run a 10K in with two kids. None the less, the medal craving running family that we are, we bundled up and headed out the door at 6am to be on time for the 8am start of the Kona Running Company ShamRock N’ Roll 10k. We arrived at the Central Middle School in Plymouth, MI at about 10 to 7 and were able to go right in for packet pickup. There was zero wait and after a quick potty break we were back in the Burban headed less than a half mile down the road to park near the starting area at Kellogg Park.
We stayed nice and warm in the truck until 7:35 then had a quick walk to Kellogg park where a bunch of us on Twitter talked about meeting up. Before I even got there Jennifer from www.winetoweigtlifting.com called my name. From the looks of it, we were the only two to meet at the desired time. It was great to see her and catch up a bit, even though we were freeing to death and I had to stop and threaten my son that if he did not behave he would not be able to run. Yep, that’s right! No running 6.2 miles for you young man! LOL, it worked.
Before we knew it we were finally off. Daddy and Monkey took off ahead of Baby Girl and I.
I started to wonder why we were out there, granted we were dressed for it, but for the first mile it was bitter on our skin. I imagined us with a horrible case of frost bite. None the less, we persevered.
A bit after mile 1 we saw Hubby and Monkey waiting in line for a porta potty outside a construction site along the course. Apparently, Monkey did not want to go earlier and now he paid the price as they literally waited in line for 15 minutes. We whizzed past them and were feeling good.
Baby Girl got into her stride around mile 2 and we never looked back. We warmed up and had so much fun!
Just after we got to mile 4 I realized that she actually had a chance to beat her PR from her first 10K which was 1:30:46 last summer at the Kona Racing Summer Solstice. I asked her if she wanted to push it and she enthusiastically said “yes.”
We shortened our walk portions and went for it. At mile 5.5 I saw my coach Bruce and he ran her in with me! She felt like a RockStar having him coach her along to the finish.
Before we knew it, she passed the finish line and got 1:27:04!!!!!! She placed 4th in the 14 & Under Age Group!
Monkey came in right after her at 1:28:44 a new PR for him too! I can only imagine what his time was if not for his break.
We had a blast, the miles flew by and we headed home with our BLING!!!
Did anyone else do any fun St. Patrick’s Day runs out there?

Thank’s Raina! We actually had a ton of fun which I did’t expect. Totally thought the kids would be complaining about the cold.

I think today was the second time we officially met- the first was at the Turkey Tot last year we met InkdGirl too. She got to see my family last weekend too! It is so cool to meet social media peeps in real life! As we both know, not always easy to get to find each other at these events
We need to get our schedules straight the next time we have the chance.
Awesome! Way to go to you, and your whole family. I would also like to point out that it was 17 degrees at the start of the race! LOL My feet went numb, but we all got through it:)
