As a parent, one thing that has become more obvious as my kids get older is they watch everything and learn from it. There have been so many bad choices I have made as a parent, well I am sure we are all guilty of that, however, after last night and this morning I can say there is one really good choice I have made in my life.
Not only does running keep me sane and in shape, but the love of the sport has also trickled down to my family. I have posted countless pictures of the kids going to Disney with us and running 5ks or their latest 10K PR. The kids enjoy running races, running around the sub with me, not so much.
We have the Crim races coming up towards the end of the month and the family is doing the 1 mile as well as the 5K. Baby Girl and I have discussed training but things just have not worked out in the evening and I have not worried about it too much for them as they are active from the time we get home till they go to bed.
Last night as we were getting ready for bed she asked me if I would wake her up early so she could go and run with me. I admit I was kind of shocked, she loves to sleep in and will not get out of bed till the last minute, or if a medal is involved.
This morning, however, when I went in her room to wake her she was all excited and ready to go. We headed out and did 1 mile around our sub. She was shocked how quiet the sub was and we chatted the entire way.
As we were finishing up she asked me what the plan was for tomorrow. I told her I had to run 7 miles and she said she would join as she wants to get all sweaty running and then jump in the pool after I giggled and told her she can ride her bike for most of it and then we can run 2 miles together after my 7. Then, we can jump in the pool and relax!
