What a week! I had such a tough time recovering from the Crim. My quads were SCREAMING most of the week and I had issues getting up from a seated position. Looking back and talking to my coach I really should have completed my 3 mile recovery run Sunday MORNING, not sunday evening. By the time we got home from Frankenmuth I could hardly move and I pinched a nerve in my lower back on top of it all. Lesson learned and I will respect the recovery process from here on out. A bit of care right after can prevent a weeks worth of pain!
With that said, I did manage to get in some miles this week and it ended up being my second week of 28 miles total.
8/26 Monday - 3 Miles Slow – Quads were really screaming at me
8/27 Tuesday - 3 Miles a tad bit faster. Starting to recover but SORE
8/28 Wednesday - 5 Miles in hot and humid weather!
8/29 Thursday - 2 Miles, I was supposed to do 5 but major shooting pain in both my quads.
8/30 Friday - 2.5 Miles a bit faster and pain was subsiding after tons of foam rolling and BioFreeze
8/31 Saturday - 3.1 Miles on the Treadmill, so wished I could have run outside, but my husband had to get to work
9/1 Sunday - 9 Hilly miles!
I knew 9 miles was on the schedule for this morning but last night my coach suggested that I get some hills in the mix. I planned on sleeping in a bit and just running around my home, but I knew what he was suggesting was the right thing to do. After the hills on the Crim and everything I put my muscles through, they needed more hills both to recover and to also get stronger.
I got up a bit earlier and headed out to our local Metro Park where I ran 9 miles of hills – well the first 6 at least. I kept the last 3 miles flat and ended up using those for slower, recovery miles as by mile 7 my quads were screaming and my PF was acting up most likely due to poor form. I finished and headed home for an ice bath. Cold but so worth it! My legs felt better after and I plan on wearing my compression tights most of the day to help recovery as well as having a ton of water and of course my EnergyBits.
Now, onto some yard work and really looking forward to having my family over for a BBQ to celebrate my upcoming birthday!
